The
Salvation Army is mobilizing resources and
personnel to assist with the international
relief effort in Haiti following a severe
earthquake Tuesday that damaged much of the
country's infrastructure, housing and commercial
buildings.
The
Salvation Army has had a presence in Haiti
since 1950 and currently operates schools,
clinics, a hospital, feeding programs, children's
homes and church-related activities spread
across two major facilities in Port au Prince,
close to the epicenter of the earthquake.
As
millions are suffering in the wake of
this catastrophic earthquake, here are
some of the ways The Salvation Army is
serving those in need:
- We
are preparing to send more than 44,000
lbs of pre-packaged emergency rations
to Haiti, along with emergency disaster
teams.
- The
Salvation Army has committed more than
$850,000 to support relief efforts
in Haiti, and is prepared to commit
more financial resources, as well as
food, water and other emergency supplies,
to assist in the recovery.
- One
of The Salvation Army’s compounds in
Haiti, which only sustained minor damages,
is currently being used as a strategic
emergency operations center to serve
those impacted by this terrible tragedy.
Long
after the dust has settled, The Salvation
Army will continue providing vital recovery
services - but we need your help. Please
make a donation today. Any amount
will be put to immediate use, and could literally
mean the difference between life or death.
Gifts
can be made online at SalvationArmyUSA.org,
via phone 1-800-SAL-ARMY and
postal mail at: The Salvation Army World
Service Office, International Disaster Relief
Fund, PO Box 630728, Baltimore, MD 21263-0728.
Please be sure to designate your donation
to the Haiti Earthquake.
