An Open Letter

As The Need Increases,
You are There to Help

Dear Friend,

During the past two years, the economy has taken a toll on most Americans. Here in our community, we are really seeing the effects.

Majors Cheryl and Eric Lo
In 2008, our Free Medical/Dental Clinic provided services to 3,156 medical and dental patients. In 2010, we gave care to 5,260 patients. Two years ago, we were providing an average of 200 food baskets a month to hungry people. These days, we distribute about 850 food baskets every month.

As striking as these numbers are, there is another sad reality behind them. Most of the people we helped two years ago were chronically homeless. Today, the vast majority of those we serve are working poor, or even middle class. Some of those who come to our clinic actually have health insurance -but they simply can't afford their copayment. After they pay for their food, rent and bills, there is simply not enough left for healthcare.

Our Free Medical/Dental Clinic is one of four free clinics in Ventura County, but it is the only one that is absolutely free. And instead of cutting services, we have increased them - keeping our clinic open an additional 8 hours a week, and adding a wellness class.

Our patients come to us as a last resort. For them, our clinic is a lifeline - one you help hold out to them through your generosity and kindness. God bless you for caring for your neighbors during these difficult times.

Gratefully,

Majors Cheryl and Eric Lo
